Use in the Classroom
iPads have a variety of different uses in the classroom. For teachers they can be an assessing tool. For students there are a variety of different apps and programs that assist their learning. In our classroom, iPads are used for taking videos and photos, connecting to the internet, using iMovie and using a variety of different apps.
Photos
In 5M we are constantly taking photos to record everything that happens in the classroom. Students are often taking photos outside based on a topics including symmetry in the environment, patterns, angles and much more. Students are also often photographed holding items of work with an accompanying description. These can be used for students own self-assessment and assessment for reporting.
Videos
Videos are used for a variety of different purposes in our classroom. The main use for it is an assessing tool. When students have presentations, they are often filmed on the iPad as a record of their work. These videos are then able to be rewetted so students can get an accurate mark. Students are also often filmed describing their pieces of work, or acting out a character from a focus text.
Internet
Just like with laptops, students use the internet to research a variety of different topics. Using iPads to research is effective as it is easier to navigate. It also helps when there are less laptops to use that iPads are available. In this way, students are able to use both devices simultaneously during research tasks.
Apps
In 5M we use a variety of different apps. Most of the apps promote creativity and allow students to experiment with different skills. In apps such as Tellagami, students create a short video explaining subject matter and are then able to insert the video into iMovie. From there they learn to use iMovie to create videos using audio, transitions, sound effects and music.
